Gina Gionfriddo (Playwright) is the author of the plays After Ashley, Guinevere, America’s Got Tragedy, Squalor and Safe. Her play U.S. Drag won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for best English-language play by a woman, and her Becky Shaw was named a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Gionfriddo’s writing has been called “whip-smart,” “hilarious” and “keenly intelligent,” and she says her favorite plays are ones that start arguments. She lives in New York City where she also writes for "Law & Order," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "Cold Case."

U.S. Drag

We seek 4 female and 4 male non-equity actors to play:
Allison & Angela- 22-25, best friends, overeducated, underemployed, stylish, mercenary, seeking the fast track to fortune and fame
James- 30-35, a man with a trust fund and an obsession with crime victims
Ned- 25-30, a man with no friends and a Wall Street job
Evan- 25-35, a helper, leader of the group "SAFE"
Mary- 25-35, a shy victim coming out of her shell
Christopher- 25-35, a self-pitying/promoting writer of creative non-fiction
Bookstore Manager/Janice/Bartender/Christen- 25-40, played by one female actor
Auditions will be held:
Monday September 6, 2:00-4:00
Tuesday September 7, 6:00-8:00
Wednesday September 8, 6:00-8:00

For the audition, please bring your headshot & resume. A short contemporary monologue is requested but not required. You may also be asked to read from the script.

U.S. Drag opens November 5 and runs through December 5. Rehearsals begin in late September. Performances are at the Chelsea Theatre Works.
The production is directed by Danielle Fauteux Jacques.
